How to Custom Fancy Packaging by Selecting a Variety of Options

1. Coatings
Coating can come in different types:
For luxury cosmetic rigid boxes, coating options include varnish, aqueous, and ultraviolet (UV). Varnish creates a thin satin, matte, or glossy layer on the wrap, and can be applied to a specific area (spot varnish) or the entire sheet (flood varnish). Aqueous coatings are water-based, making them more eco-friendly than varnish or UV coatings, and are scratch- or scuff-resistant. They can be glossy or matte, and are food-safe, making them ideal for boxes that house food and beverage. Ultraviolet coatings offer the highest gloss finish, but foil stamping cannot be applied to them. They can be embossed, but should completely harden first and require UV light or sun exposure to quickly harden the coating.
2. Lamination
Luxury cosmetic rigid boxes can be laminated with polypropylene or a very thin plastic film to make the packaging water-resistant and moisture-free, reducing creases and small cracks. This type of lamination is more expensive than varnish and is mostly used for high-end packaging due to its higher level of protection. Most customized luxury cosmetic rigid boxes feature matte lamination, which is the best coating to use when planning to add foil stamping, embossing, and spot UV on the outer design.
3.Hot Foil Stamping
Foil designs of gold, silver, or other colors can be applied to luxury cosmetic rigid boxes using heat and pressure. The shiny metallic foil can be used to accentuate your brand and logo.
4. Embossing and Debossing
Adding raised areas (embossing) and indentations (debossing) can increase the textural appeal of your high-end gift boxes and luxury packaging, making them more visually appealing to consumers. These techniques create depth when applied to foil-stamped material, enhancing the visual and tactile experience of the packaging.
5. Flocking
In luxury cosmetic rigid boxes, flocking can be used to create velvet or suede-like textures on certain parts of or the entire wrap. The short fibers used in flocking can be made of cotton, wool, rayon, or other synthetic materials, and can be dyed to match your brand's color scheme. This process may also be applied to the surface of some inserts. Special equipment is used to electrically charge the flocking fibers in order to make them stand up, before spreading them over adhesive-coated material.

How Are Custom Rigid Boxes Made?
Manufacturers of rigid boxes are often sought out by brands and sellers looking for luxury or high-end retail packaging solutions. Typically, the creation process for these boxes involves three stages:
1. Conceptualization
Luxury cosmetic rigid boxes manufacturers can provide consulting services for designing the perfect box that meets your goals. Some manufacturers have an in-house design and engineering team that can handle conceptualization and prototyping. At this stage of the process, the designers need to consider if the packaging design follows an existing product line, how to hold the product in the box, which artwork should appear in front of the box, and if the retailer's advice should be included. Once the concept and budget estimates are presented, reviewed, and approved, the box maker can create the template. The contracting company needs to provide the artwork that will go on the wrap of the luxury cosmetic rigid box.
2. Production
The manufacturing process of luxury cosmetic rigid boxes involves the scoring and cutting of chipboards to the correct size and shape. The wrap is then printed beforehand and may undergo lamination or other treatments required by the client. The base or tray of the rigid boxes is then folded by machines or staff, or a combination of both, and adhesives are applied to the corners to ensure that the sides stay up. In fully-automated packaging companies, pre-trimmed wraps are lined up in a conveyor belt and an arm places the tray on the glued surface of each wrap. The tray with the wrap beneath it then passes through a plunger, which evenly glues the wrap onto the outer surface of the tray.
3. Delivery
It is important to consider the protection of the packaging material during shipment, and this should be factored in during the design stage as well.
4.Testing
Luxury cosmetic rigid boxes, like all high-end packaging, require testing to ensure that they are sturdy enough to protect their contents during transport. Damaged items can result in additional expenses for the brand, such as replacing the unit, offering a discount, spending on return freight, and missing profit. More importantly, damaged items can adversely affect customer trust and satisfaction. Therefore, producing your custom luxury cosmetic rigid boxes will only be complete when testing is conducted to ensure that they will arrive safely and securely to their intended destination.
5.Dimension Testing
or luxury cosmetic rigid boxes, it is crucial that the chipboard is tested for accurate dimensions even before it gets wrapped. In an automated assembly line, the folded chipboard must have the precise length, height, and width or diameter to ensure that the wrap will cover it partially or fully, depending on the design specifications. Meeting the prescribed measurements is also necessary to ensure that the product, inserts, and fillings will fit inside.
Label and sticker application is also set automatically in mechanized production. Thus, custom luxury cosmetic rigid boxes should all have the exact and accurate dimensions so that seals and any other adhesive-based matter will be placed on the right spot.
6.Drop Test
To ensure that luxury cosmetic rigid boxes are sturdy enough to protect their contents during transport, drop test procedures are often conducted. The most popular drop test procedures come from the International Safe Transit Association (ISTA). During the test, the luxury cosmetic product is placed inside the box and a machine drops the box on a hard surface from varying heights. The test can be performed on the corners, edges, or sides of the luxury cosmetic rigid boxes. The manufacturer or supplier should analyze any resulting damage and work out a solution. When the improved box is available, the test is repeated. Drop test machines for various luxury cosmetic package sizes and weights are available in the market.
